
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said that there would be four cargo planes containing logistics departing for Syria and Turkiye on February 20.
This logistical assistance will be provided to victims of the earthquake disaster in these two countries. “We will send assistance in the form of necessary logistics. “God willing, we will depart on February 20 and we will send 4 cargo planes,” said Muhadjir at the Presidential Palace Complex, Tuesday (14/2/2023).
“To send food ingredients, the equipment needed includes blankets. “The main thing is in accordance with the requests of the Turkiye government and the Syrian government,” he explained.
Apart from that, continued Muhadjir, the Indonesian government will also distribute aid in the form of cash to earthquake victims in both countries. This has been approved by President Joko Widodo.
Muhadjir explained that on Tuesday, February 14, he had reported developments regarding the Turkiye and Syria earthquakes to President Jokowi. Currently, the death toll in Turkiye has reached 31,643 people. Meanwhile, in Syria the death toll has reached 4,574 people.
“Meanwhile, almost 200,000 people have been evacuated,” said Muhadjir. Then, the number of Indonesian citizens who died in Turkiye to date is 2 people. Then the number of Indonesian citizens who have been evacuated is 123 people. Currently they are placed in the shelter of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Ankara.
Muhadjir further explained that the Indonesian government has currently dispatched two waves of humanitarian aid to Turkiye. The first wave was sent on February 11 and the second wave was sent on February 13.
“We sent 62 personnel for the first wave of assistance along with supporting equipment,” said Muhadjir.
“Then on February 13, we sent 181 personnel to carry out auxiliary tasks there, especially for first aid, namely SAR and medical personnel and orthopedic experts,” he explained.
He said that orthopedic surgeons were urgently needed in Turkiye and Syria to treat victims buried under building rubble due to the earthquake. In future, the government plans to send infectious disease experts and nurses.
